I feel like I’m starting every day with, “well we woke up after bugger all sleep, tired and had to hit the road.” But it’s all true, the yin of an awesome groundhog days’ yang. Today was another, after a late night in Madrid with The Eldorado lads, we had to be up early to deal with the very shit parking situation on the streets of Madrid.
We stopped at a roadside restaurant on the way to Zaragoza, I won’t call them roadhouses because the food in these places is actual food, delicious Spanish cuisine. I made some calls home and heard the Hawks had taken out the flag. I had forgotten all about the GF, fucking hawks again. It would have been sweet to find a bar in Madrid to watch it had I remembered, though I would have been even more tired and it looked like a shit match anyway, according to the worm on my afl app. 🙂
The Hotel was sweet and we had a few hours to get some sleep.
The venue ‘La Ley Seca’ was a cool small rock club in the inner city. The dinner across the street was awesome, the jamon croquettes were probably the best we had so far, so good when they’re fresh and hot. The wild mushroom risotto was pretty sweet too.
The gig was good, the place was packed and the crowd was enthusiastic. You could tell a lot had come to “check us out” (that analytical stare, trying to decipher their own opinion from whatever hype they’ve heard). But that’s the ropes when you’re playing in a place you’ve never been to and all the people have heard is “hyped” press. Plus with freshies at a KOTN show it takes them a while to work out, what the hell is going on and where all that sound is coming from. These shows usually go the same way though and tonight was the same. They take ages to warm up and then when the set’s done they won’t let you go. We only played one encore, we were beat.
One old dude rocked up with a note pinned to his chest (in English) that said “Thank God and St Bon, we still have Australian Rock.” We thought that was excellent. It’s great that Aussie Rock (one of the only world wide recognized genres of music created in Australia) is so widely appreciated abroad, maybe more so than in OZ?
A great show all in all and it’s always awesome to meet new people. Zaragoza, we’ll definitely see you again. Sorry we forgot the crowd shot, it’s a pity the place looked bloody great. So here is a pic of what we did to this guy.
Love ya Spain
