Not getting enough sleep in Valencia from the great and late show the night before, we started the day with the task of loading out all our gear from the night before. The guys at the recommended it was safer in the venue over night than our van. That seemed like a great idea at the time, but it wasn’t at this point! I felt pretty average, not sure if it was more hangover or sleep deprivation? I didn’t drink much at all. We got our shit, the legends at the venue gave us a hand and we were off.
The drive to Orihuela was fairly easy, only just over 2 hours. The landscape began getting dryer and more rugged, it was a hot day also.
We arrived in the town and checked into the hotel with minimal fuss, I managed to get some sleep.
The venue, La Gramola, was a small but pretty cool, well-seasoned rock venue. The owners lived upstairs and you could tell they had been doing this a long time. It was covered in Band posters including a large Don Fernando poster (nice one lads). It’s awesome seeing other bands you know at some of these venues, even old bands, that have since disbanded or whatever, even if it’s the old band room scribble that I’ve always tried to avoid.
We were skeptical that there would be a crowd to play to, due to the fact when we arrived (on time) to play there was maybe 15 people in the place, we were the only band playing and it was 10 Euros to get in. Since we haven’t been there before and we keep thinking nobody knows about KOTN or the shows we’re playing in these towns. We were wrong, when we kicked in the place was packed. 60+ people crammed into a space that could hold probably 80 if you really pushed it. It’s great when it turns from “oh man, this is gonna be hard work” and then it rips. They were a very enthusiastic, rockin’ bunch. We played pretty well this night and they really appreciated it. I think it went for 2 hours. We did about 4 encores. We had people that had been following us for years drive miles to get the show! I was staggered.
Danny decided to pull the pin early and I hung around chatting to people for a while before I too decided that maybe getting more sleep before our 5 hour drive to Estepona (and show) came around all too quick. Plus a little niggle had started to form in my throat.
A great little show! Thanks dudes
