Had a good sleep in Santiago De Compostella this morning, and because the next drive was only just over an hour we decided to hang in town and have lunch. Walking around near the venue was beautiful and old, very nice place. We stopped at a little pizza joint which ended up being a good choice. After a few beers we set off for Salason in Cangas. We arrived at a beautiful town by the sea. The sun was out and not a cloud in the sky. We found the hotel and a great park across the road and checked in, just as we lay down for a rest we realized we had to bail for soundcheck. No rest for the wicked hey.

So off we go to find the venue and the dreaded load in, the Tomtom took us to a main road, and the venue was down a street we couldn’t even drive down, so Higgsy got out to go have a look while I looked for somewhere to park for a bit, and it was a pretty bad park. Anyway, he returns with the info of 1. It’s gonna be a shit of a load in and 2. The guys aren’t even there. That was our rest time gone, so we decide to go back to the hotel and chill there for a bit.

Attempt two, we’re gig ready and also ready for probably one of the worst load in’s we’ll do. Again I find a random park while Higgsy goes to the venue again. 10 minutes later he’s back with a bloke named Henry. Henry is the venue owner that speaks little English but smiles a lot, and he’s coming with us to show us where to park. So we head off around the block and basically into a tiny piazza where people are sitting around and kids are playing, through some super narrow streets, around a couple corners that the van only just fits through, and straight up right in front of the venue. Bonza! It’s super cool when you expect the worst and get a good one. The venue is pretty cool, Unleaded Live by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page is playing on the pa, this always makes me like a venue and it’s owners more. Decent size stage and room, with lots of band tshirts that have been through before us, some familiar some not. We set up and Henry in the sound guy too. Everything is sounding great and we’re ready to go. Like all venues here, they feed you. It’s just part of booking a band and we haven’t paid for one drink. So we meet the promoter too who’s a nice guy, and we sit down and eat before the show. The room slowly has more punters but it’s not going to be a sell out or anything, early days for that. The bunch that are there however, are amongst the most excited and enthusiastic crowd we’ve ever played too! Doing whatever Higgsy would ask of them, and chanting in time with the music, even the soccer chant “Ooooleeeey oley oley oleeeyyy!” was thrown in to egg us on for an encore. Super fun stuff.

The gig was great fun and the venue and its punters showed great hospitality. A few knockoffs and we were done for the night. Back to the hotel for a sleep as tomorrow has a nice 6 hour drive in the warm sun. Bring it on, Estudio 27 Burgos is next.
